From our President
This annual one day festival is an opportunity for you to connect with other community theater enthusiasts. While we encourage you to submit a one-act play for the festival, you are welcome to attend even if you don’t offer a play submission.
In addition to one-act play performances, we offer two workshops in the morning, a MeACT business meeting for those who desire to become more involved in the organization, a luncheon, and commentary on the performances by a Maine theater professional. In the past, performances have ranged from published one act plays of varying lengths (ten minutes to an hour) to cuttings or scenes from full length plays (usually a play that has just been or will be produced in its entirety) to pieces scripted and performed by your fellow Mainers.
In accordance with AACT (American Association of Community Theaters), with whom we are affiliated, we offer participating theaters the opportunity to compete in their two year one act play festival cycle. Because this is the second year of the current cycle, there is no competition at the state level. That would happen at next year’s MeACT festival for those who wish to be judged. While competition has never been a primary focus of MeACT, the opportunity is made available for those so inclined.
I hope you will consider participating in this year’s festival in Waterville. The atmosphere is always convivial and you never know what you will learn or see. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions.
Best regards,
Joe Klapatch, President of MeACT

About this year's festival and how to register:
The Studio Theater
MeACT (Maine Association of Community Theaters), a Maine not-for-profit corporation, will be producing our annual one-act play festival and workshops for MeACT members and the public on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Waterville Opera House Studio Theater (hosted by ACAT), 93 Main St., Waterville.
This is a non-competitive year, so the time element is not as restrictive and allowances can be made. However, we do encourage a performance of less than 60 minutes (including set-up and strike) so as to keep the day manageable.
To enter the Festival if your group is not a MeACT member, you will need to join MeACT, with annual membership dues of $30 for your entire group. Festival registration, a separate item, is an additional $30; total $60 + your royalties, which you are responsible for paying. All fees are used to defray the expenses associated with the Festival and the events which take place there. Registration Deadline is April 1, 2013. The registration fee is due no later than the day of the Festival itself. Once you decide to participate, please email the following information to Joe Klapatch as soon as it is known:
Theater Group Name
Theater address
Theater phone, email, and website
Show Director
Title of One-Act Play
Playwright
Royalty Rights/Publisher
Further details on the schedule for the day, order of show presentation, workshops, etc. will be forthcoming after April 1st.
